Vetsolutions Support Cancer Charities
- 18 June 2013
Members of the team from Vetsolutions have worked up a sweat in the last few weeks, as they took to the streets of Edinburgh in 2 different events in aid of two very worthwhile cancer charities.
Software developer, Robin Knox, set the pace when he completed his first ever marathon at the Edinburgh event on Sunday 26 May and inspired by his example he was followed 2 weeks later onto the streets of Edinburgh when three members of the Vetsolutions’ support team – Fiona Dawe, Jo Barron and Joan Todd with office administrator Linda Travis, otherwise know as the ‘Terribly SIlly Mooners’, completed the 26-mile Edinburgh Moonwalk on 8 June. Both events presented personal challenges to those who took part and after many months of training they were all delighted to complete the respective courses.
Apparently the marathon course is ‘flat and fast’ making the Edinburgh Marathon officially the fastest in the UK and for Robin, who completed the course in 4:04:23 it was a personal triumph: “It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life and I think I’ll do one again…but not for a year or so.”
Both events raised considerable funds for the chosen charities, Robin raised a total of £840 for Cancer Research UK and would like to extend his personal thanks to all who sponsored him. The Moonwalkers; Fiona, Jo and Joan – along with other family members raised over £1500 for Walk the Walk – uniting against breast cancer and the girls are already planning for next year’s event!
